A couple months ago, I decided that I had finally had enough of working at my small, one-drawer writer’s desk. I took to Pinterest to start searching for more practical solutions for my home office, scoured pages upon pages of office furniture online, and was almost ready to settle on a less-than-pretty, but very functional desk… Until my husband swooped to save the day (and the aesthetic of my work space) by offering to build one for me!
One trip to Lowe’s and two days later, my office had gotten a huge facelift! I now have a 9-foot-long desktop which comes in handy for housing books, my planner, and the notebooks / print-outs / client notes that I need to refer to on an almost-constant basis.
I know it’s very anti-creative-brain of me, but I cannot function with a cluttered work area, so this desk has been a God send – especially as I continue to expand my client roster. Now, I have room to keep my things neatly tucked away – and therefore out of my way – until I need them!
Another bonus? A bigger desk means much more room for office decor! Since my workspace is situated in the far wall of our living room, I wanted to be able to incorporate my own professional and personal touches without clashing with the overall style of our home. Some of my favorite things on my desk include this Buffalo map print (c/o Modern Map Art), these hand bookends (via Amazon), scented candles, and a staple in our home: fresh flowers (c/o BloomsyBox).
As always, I’m so thankful for my husband for his talents and for having the vision to create this beautiful space for me. Luke, if you’re reading this… You’re the best, and I appreciate you!
Sidenote: If you’re in need of a new desk, I’d love to find my old one a new home! You can still find it on the shelves at Target (in white), but the one sitting in my basement is available for a much better price – wink wink!
