I cried real tears the other day watching Huck drink water from a normal water bottle without spilling. In case you’re wondering how I’m dealing with this whole “my baby is TWO” business, that should give you a pretty solid idea.
This past weekend, we celebrated Henry’s second birthday. Two whole years since this little ball of energy has been in our world. He has made our lives funnier, more hectic, and much louder than ever before, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about him. Our Huckles is “all boy,” as they say. Climbing, running, jumping, and tearing things apart so he can put them back together (or not) non-stop. Also, talking non-stop. Luke and I often joke that he hasn’t had more than a minute of silence in his entire life. The kid literally came out of the womb making noise and hasn’t stopped since!
At two years old, Huck is…
- Stringing together 6+ word sentences.
- Wearing size 7 shoes and 24 month / 2T clothing
- Obsessed with his big sister & following everything she does
- A big fan of “Super Why”
- A bigger fan of snuggles
- Busy, busy, busy!
- Very good at using his manners!
- Convinced that his name is actually “Huckles”
- All of his colors
- How to count to 10
- His ABCs
- All the words to Twinkle Twinkle, Silent Night, and our bedtime prayers
- All of his body parts
- Playing cars
- Building towers with blocks and Legos
- Giving “Huck Hugs” and snuggles
- Coloring with Marleigh
- Dancing “like Papa”
- Family movie night / popcorn
- His binkies (still)
- “Scaring” Marleigh
- Running around the house, even when he’s not supposed to (“I running!”)
Words cannot describe how much we love this little boy. His dimpled smile lights up any room he’s in, and his silly personality brings so much joy to everyone around him. I cannot imagine our life without him. Watching the bond he shares with his sister, how much enjoyment gets from the simplest things (like being able to eat his favorite color cereal bar), and watching him grow and learn so much in such a short amount of time warms my heart every single day.
These past two years have flown by and I am still in denial that my baby boy isn’t such a baby anymore. Being your mommy is one of my greatest accomplishments. I hope you never lose your sense of excitement for the little things, your love for your sissy, and your belly laugh that cuts to our core in the best way possible. Your stubborn edge and determined spirit are going to take you so far in this world, but I hope more than anything that your sweet, silly demeanor always shines through no matter where life takes you. I am so proud of the little guy you’re becoming, and while I can’t wait to see how you continue to grow, I will do everything in my power to keep you my baby as long as humanly possible. Three of my favorite words to hear are, “I snuggle mommy,” and I hope you’re never too old to run to me for a “Huck hug.” We all love you so very much, and I am so proud to be your mommy! Happy second birthday, bubs!
