This is a post I have been wanting to write for years, since I first quit my 9-5 job in advertising and started my freelance journey. I had high hopes and big dreams to someday be able to stay home full time, make my own hours, and be able to soak up precious time with our babies.
It took a while – 3 years, 4 months, and 20 days, to be exact – but I can finally say that I have officially achieved what I originally set out to do!
With my two weeks’ notice put in at my “day job,” freelance agreements signed, and my planner chock full of tasks written in color-coded ink, I’m ready. This is a huge leap for me professionally, and I don’t take for granted the fact that I am able to do what I have been dreaming of for so long.
So, hey. My name’s Samantha Jo, and I’m a full-time freelancer / work at home mom (WAHM)
I’d like to thank the Academy…
To my hardworking and always supportive husband, Luke. You have believed in this lofty dream of mine since Day 1 and I am forever grateful for you. You always give me that extra push I need to get to the finish line and you are my biggest fan. I love you so, so much. Thank you for helping me be the mommy I have always wanted to be for our kids. I promise to cook you more homemade meals and be changed out of my pajamas by the time you get home from work more often!
To my mommy, aka “Mimi,” for offering (and begging) to still watch the kids for a few hours each week so that I can have uninterrupted work/scheduling days. Where would we be without your love and support? I’m glad I don’t have to find out! Thank you, thank you! I love you!
To my beautiful children, who happily play together and let me get work done while I am home. You guys can’t read this (yet), but I love you both more than I could ever explain. You are the sole reason that I have gotten to this point in the first place. I adore you and cannot wait to spend more sweet moments with you!
To my clients, who I literally couldn’t do this without. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to better your brands, squeeze out my creative juices on your campaigns, and for keeping my eye doctor in business with your proofreading projects!
There aren’t many people who are able to say that they are making a living out of doing something they love, much less being their own boss while they do it. I am giddy with excitement and my stomach is full of butterflies but I’ve done it. And, heck, I’m really fricken proud of myself for being here!
